On November 12th members of the ARCC Student Concert Choir packed their purses for an all-day tour. The students caravanned to the Coon Rapids Campus where they participated in an exchange concert with the Coon Rapids Campus’ Concert Choir.

After wards, they all traveled down to the U of M School of Music and enjoyed a brief lunch in the cafeteria. However, this was not what they were here for. After lunch, everyone gathered into the choir room for a Clinique with the U’s Director of Choral Activities Kathy Saltzman Romey. The students performed two of the pieces they were currently working on for Ms. Romey: “Erev Shel Shoshanim,” a Hebrew love song by Moshe Dor and Josef Hadar and arranged by Jack Klebano, and “Gloria in Excelsis Deo” from Franz Joseph Haydn’s “Heiligmesse” and arranged by Russel Robinson. She in turn offered advice and constructive criticism to help the students improve, not only on those two songs, but in their general choral skills as well.

After the Clinique, everyone traveled to the Rosedale Mall for some supper from the food court, and some shopping for those who weren’t hungry. Then it was back to the U for a choir concert in the Ted Mann Auditorium.

The students had a blast and many are eager to enroll in Concert Choir next term to see what the next Day Tour has in store. They all agree that Ms. Romey is a rock star and are eager to participate in another Musical Clinique with her.

If the above events sound like the perfect day to you, then don’t forget to enroll in the Spring Semester 2011 Concert Choir for one credit or as a free extra-curricular. Don’t worry if you can’t read music, or have never had any choral experience before, Concert Choir is for students of all skill levels. All you need is a love for music.

However, this semester is not yet over, and the students of the Cambridge Campus Concert Choir wish to welcome everyone to come to the Winter Concert on December 2nd at 7:00 in the evening. They will be performing alongside the Guitar Ensemble and you will have a chance to her the two songs they practiced with Ms. Romey in addition to many others.
