Switch your email from Metnet to Microsoft Live@Edu by Nov. 15 and you might win an iPod.
The college is switching from Metnet to Microsoft Live@Edu (my.anokaramsey.edu ) for student email, in part because Metnet is discontinuing its email service. According to Cindy Nutter of the Student Life office, Metnet has not offered a specific end date, but students recommended moving as quickly as possible to a new, more robust alternative.

Live@Edu (my.anokaramsey.edu ) was chosen because the college is a Microsoft organization and it was the service strongly preferred by student leadership, explained Nutter.

The Office of the Chancellor for the Minnesota State Colleges and
Universities will reduce its budget by $4.2 million and eliminate 41
positions by July 1, 2011. The budget change is due to an anticipated reduction in state funding for fiscal year 2012, and it comes on top of budget reductions to the system office made in five of the past 10 years. This represents a 10 percent reduction from the current fiscal year. The elimination of 41 positions
will be accomplished through resignations, retirements and layoffs.
Jennifer Eccles has accepted the Director of Nursing position. Her first day was Oct. 28. Eccles holds a bachelor of nursing and master of education degree from Lakehead University and a second master of nursing degree from the University of Ottawa. She has experiences as a teacher, staff nurse, nurse manager and clinical director.
Dr. Kimberly Lynch has accepted the position of Interim Chief Information Officer of Anoka-Ramsey Community College. She will also continue to maintain her role as Dean of Innovative Teaching and Learning since the two positions are closely connected. According to Interim President Jessica Stumpf, “Kim has been an effective leader on both Anoka-Ramsey campuses through her active support of teaching and learning while serving as an English faculty member and as a dean.”
The Cambridge Campus GSA club has been put on hiatus for the remaining of this semester. GSA currently has the following officer positions open:
• Vice President: Facilitate meetings and events with president.
• Secretary: maintains minutes of the GSA meetings and activities, takes notes of the meeting topics and writes what needs to be on the office calendar.
• Director of Finance: handles all financial transactions, maintains thorough and accurate records of all transactions, and produces an annual financial report for the Gay Straight Alliance.
• Resource Manager: keeps track of all resources held by the GSA and obtains new resources whenever possible.
• Publicity Manager: writes updates for the school newspaper, manages event PR, create club literature, and keeps the Lavander Magazine on campus up to date.
“Make it Legal (We’re not Talking About Marijuana) 515 Ways to Achieve Equality for Same-Sex Couples” will be presented by Project 515 on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 12-2 p.m. This presentation will include a brief history of the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, and Transgender movement nationally, and locally. Discussion will also take place regarding the importance of creating equality for all in marriage, raising children, and other inequities many same sex couples face in Minnesota and nationwide.
The next Diversity-sponsored event will be “We Work the Same Jobs, Same Hours, and We Receive Different Pay?” on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 1-3 p.m. This will be presented by Minnesota Constitutional Amendment Equality (MN-CAFÉ
While America has seen great progress in the efforts towards women equality, the country has yet to resolve the issue of equal pay on the dollar.
Four new nursing faculty started teaching at ARCC this fall. Kathleen Johnson and Leda Holder will be replacing Char Foss and Sandy Robins (they retired) on the CR campus, and Jennifer Tucker and Mary Baumgartner will be joining the Cambridge Campus. Kathleen is a women’s care nurse practitioner with her Masters in Nursing from Drexel University. Leda, has worked for the nursing department on a part-time basis. Leda received her masters in nursing from Metro State University and is a family nurse practitioner. ennifer Tucker will be working with the third semester students completing, maternal/newborn, pediatrics and mental health. Jennifer received her Master of Arts, nurse educator from St. Catherine’s University. Mary Baumgartner, has 12 plus years of acute care nursing experience and recently completed her master’s in nursing from Walden University.
The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Foundation has received an $800,000 grant to encourage former students to re-enroll and complete their two- or four-year degrees as part of a new program to raise college completion rates in Minnesota.
The music department on the Cambridge Campus is planning an open house on Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in E244. EVERYONE is invited! The Choir and the Guitar Ensemble will be performing; information on classes and activities will be available; the brand new piano lab will be available to try out; and munchies and door prizes will be available to everyone!
Mai Shoua Khang is the new TRIO Upward Bound Advisor. She will handle student case loads at North Branch and Cambridge-Isanti High Schools. Leah Lenneman continues to manage student case loads at Princeton and Cambridge-Isanti High Schools.
Mai Shoua has a B.A. in psychology and a M.S. in school counseling from UW – Stout. She recently completed counseling internships at Wellstone International High School in Minneapolis and Ramsey Junior High School in St. Paul. Prior to that she worked in Multicultural Student Services at UW-Stout.
